Inspiring: Interactive Candlestick

A New Archetype of Candlestick that Inspires and Interacts

The Inspiring candlestick, designed by Junqiang Lyu, redefines the traditional candlestick by introducing interactivity and versatility. With its unique design and portable nature, it offers a new way to experience candle rituals.

Traditional candlesticks are often seen as static sculptures, but the Inspiring candlestick breaks this mold by allowing users to interact with and arrange its state according to their preferences. The candlestick features a U-shaped iron frame with magnets that hold the single candle holders in place. Users can decide the position of each candle holder, creating a dynamic and poetic picture that can be changed at will.

One of the standout features of the Inspiring candlestick is its versatility. When not in use, the single candle holders can be stored in the base, protecting the candles from volatilization or staining. Additionally, the candlestick is lightweight and can be easily disassembled into two compact pieces, making it portable and perfect for outdoor activities such as camping. The U-shaped frame and base can be assembled and disassembled repeatedly with friction force, ensuring stability and adaptability in various scenarios.

The design of the Inspiring candlestick incorporates thoughtful considerations for sustainability. The U-shaped frame is made of iron sheet, utilizing a cost-saving manufacturing process, while the other components are made of aluminum through die-casting, making the candlestick both lightweight and recyclable.

Dimensions of the Inspiring candlestick are 100mm in width, 100mm in depth, and 350mm in height. The magnets used in the design provide stability and flexibility for the single candle holders on the U-shaped frame. The candlestick was developed over a period of six months, starting in September 2020 in Rome and concluding in March 2021 in Shanghai.

The Inspiring candlestick is a result of extensive research and development. Junqiang Lyu conducted market and user research to define the archetype of an interactive candle holder with scenario flexibility. The design process involved building numerous tangible mockups to test different structures, materials, proportions, and details. This iterative approach allowed for direct feedback and refinement of the final product.

The Inspiring candlestick has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Inspiring candlestick stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to creating a better world.

The Inspiring candlestick offers a fresh perspective on candle rituals, allowing users to actively participate in creating their own unique experiences. Its interactivity, versatility, and sustainable design make it a standout piece for those seeking a new and inspiring addition to their lifestyle.
